The club soccer season is just a few weeks away from starting and preseason matches are starting to pop up around Texas every weekend. These matches are great opportunities to watch teams in the early days of the new season and also offer interesting perspectives as teams from different leagues go against each other.

On Saturday, August 9, one of those encounters happened in Houston, with ECNL side [program_tooltip program_id='283243' first='Albion' last='Hurricanes FC'] G09 hosting Girls Academy opponents [program_tooltip program_id='283457' first='San' last='Antonio City SC'] 09 for a friendly match at the Campbell Road Sports Park. Pushed by a dominant second-half performance, Albion won 9-0, starting their preseason in great form.

Albion had a great start to the match and scored their first goal in the seventh minute, when midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='148468' first='Brooke' last='Mansour'] picked up a rebound inside the penalty box and sent the ball into the back of the net with a shot on the right corner. Two minutes later, forward [player_tooltip player_id='148485' first='Baylee' last='Corcoran'] doubled their lead by getting on the ball just outside the box and firing a low shot that went in near the left post.

The second half of the match was entirely one-sided as Albion scored seven unanswered goals to produce their elastic score. Midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='214145' first='Ashley' last='Baxter'] scored the first two, in the second and seventh minutes, midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='157156' first='Camila' last='Miranda Riebeling'] got one in the ninth minute, defender [player_tooltip player_id='148466' first='Audrey' last='Brendel'] scored off of a corner kick in the 15th minute, Corcoran completed her hat-trick with goals scored in the 21st and 39th minutes and forward [player_tooltip player_id='214146' first='Bridget' last='Asekomhe'] got hers in the 27th minute.

Corcoran had an excellent performance for Albion, scoring three goals and being a consistent threat out wide for them. She spent time on both wings and had no trouble beating her defender, using creative moves and benefiting from her ability to use both feet very well to make it past them. Combining pace and excellent dribbling skills, she was a handful and, besides getting a hat-trick, also generated several goal-scoring opportunities for her teammates. Corcoran did a great job of appearing in the penalty box to finish chances and scored two goals in well-placed shots from the edge of the box and another one with an excellent header.

Playing up, Baxter was only on the field during part of the second half, but still managed to make a big impact and play a major role in Albion's dominant performance. She scored two goals in her first seven minutes on the field, displaying great ability to finish from mid-range. Operating in central midfield, she brought a lot of intensity to the game, working well on both sides of the ball and helping her team control the center of the field. Baxter was very dynamic and efficient in possession, beating defenders with quick moves and turns and creating space for her to drive the ball forward or find teammates with her accurate passes.

LaFollette displayed impressive intensity for a preseason match and helped Albion take control with her high-energy game in central midfield. She was very active defensively, covering a lot of ground and keeping opponents under pressure with her ability to win duels and intercept passes. The midfielder also worked well in possession, creating space with quick turns and moves and picking the right options for her passing, while also appearing well in the final third. The midfielder was used in central defense in part of the second half and did well when dealing with SA City SC's long balls and with her distribution.

Albion's striker Allison had a solid shift for her team despite not scoring goals. Her holdup play facilitated several plays in the final third and she won more duels than she lost against SA City's physical center back. Allison moved very well in the final third and consistently looked for the ball, getting involved in most of the team's attacking plays. She also did well by providing excellent service in set pieces and fired some dangerous shots from outside the penalty box.

Albion's backline didn't have much to deal with for most of the match as the team heavily dominated possession, but Hamlin-Segura was always solid and reliable when she had to make stops. She started the match at left back and, besides keeping things under control in her zone defensively, appeared well when her team had the ball. She would at times drop next to the center backs to support the team's buildup and on other occasions move forward to combine with Corcoran and make plays out wide. She returned in the second half, spending time at right back and central defense, and appeared well in possession.

Although SA City SC had a difficult game from a defensive standpoint, Navarro showed some nice qualities on and off the ball. The left back played defense with great energy and made some strong plays, creating some difficulties for Albion when they tried to attack there. In the second half, when her team struggled to build out of the back, she displayed the confidence to ask for the ball and find good passes and push it forward with runs on the left. Navarro ended the match in midfield and kept her high intensity level.

A central midfielder, Eaton had some ups and downs during the match, but played with great determination and did good things on the ball. She worked hard defensively and was able to stop many Albion plays with physical stops in midfield. Eaton also stood out in possession as she was heavily involved in the few moments in which her team was able to connect consecutive passes and keep the ball. The midfielder made nice moves to bat pressure in the center of the field and always made good choices with her distribution.
